Village Hall - Activities for the Renovation Fund
May Day 2010

Sunday 14th June - LUNCH AT BRONHYDDON

Lunching in the marquee with inset from left, Oliver on keyboard, Ellis on cornet and Richard, Rhodri and Huw.
The lunch held on Sunday 14th June at Bronhyddon in a marquee kindly donated by Robert & Christine Jones-Perrott was a great success, raising £585 towards the Memorial Hall improvements. It was a perfect summer’s day, the lunch was good and the entertainment that followed featured young people of the locality. Oliver Parsons played a wide variety of music on the keyboard, Richard Lewis and Rhodri, Huw, and Gerwyn Jones sang beautifully accompanied by Gwennan Jones, and Ellis Davies gave renditions on the cornet and keyboard. All in all a veritable feast of young talent. Gwynne Owen thanked hosts Robert & Christine, all the musicians, the guests and the organising committee. The afternoon ended with a tour of the beautiful gardens where everyone enjoyed the sunshine and the exceptional views of the surrounding countryside.
Saturday 2nd May - MAY FESTIVAL IN LLANFECHAIN
The sun shone, the cherry was in blossom and the music played; all perfect conditions for the first May Festival in Llanfechain. The Shrewsbury Lasses and the Bull & Pump Morris Dancers gave a lively performance, there was keen competition in traditional games but the limelight was taken by the ridiculously exciting hobby horse races. If you add in the good food and the colourful stalls it was a day to remember for one and all. The treasure hunt around the village was won by Gwyneth Casewell and family, who were the only competitors to answer all the questions correctly. As a bonus the event also raised £500 towards the extension and renovation of the Llanfechain Memorial Hall.

Friday 27th February Auction of Promises
Plans to extend and renovate Llanfechain Memorial Hall received a massive boost on Friday 27th February when a Promise Auction raised over £5000. The project, which has already received substantial support from the big lottery fund, plans to include high specification insulation, double glazing, solar energy and a new green car park. The organising Committee would like to thank the auctioneer, Geoff Whittall, everyone who gave pledges, and all those who made generous bids on the night.
The next fundraisers will be a Pub Quiz on Friday 20th March at 8pm in the Plas yn Dinas Inn and a May Day Festival on Saturday May 2nd on the Village Field. For more information contact Nita Duff on 01691 829081 or check this site.

Friday 16th January 2009 The Generation Game
People of all ages joined together in an evening of games. New skills were learnt, old favourites revisited, and the daftest quiz you’ve ever seen was won by Audrey Moult.
The excuse for this evening of fun was to raise funds for the restoration of Llanfechain Village Hall and a total of £80 was added to the fund. Chairman, Gwynne Owen, thanked everyone who had brought games, and everyone who had supported the evening.
The next event is a PROMISE AUCTION on 27th February at 7.30pm and the Committee hope that there will be widespread support for this event. For more information contact Gwynne Owen 01691 828356

Saturday November 22nd 2008 The Community Celebrates
Llanfechain Memorial Hall was the venue for the official celebration following the £244,000 Big Lottery grant secured earlier in the year. On November 22nd all members of the community, young & old, were invited to find out about the time scale and progress for the extension and refurbishment of their Hall. Chairman Gwynne Owen opened the proceedings, informing those attending of the current position, followed by presentations from Doug Holmes, treasurer and Geraint Roberts, architect. There were colouring and treasure hunt competitions for children whilst adults got familiar with what their new hall would look like thanks to a scale model prepared by committee member Alan Duff. Pledges of volunteer labour were accompanied by donations. Refreshments which had been provided by the Committee supported by The Cheese Company of Oswestry were available for free; however donations to cover those costs and a grand raffle raised over £200.
