1965                Llanfechain lost it’s rail service in January 1965 with the closing of the Llanfyllin branch line.
1980                The population continued to fall such that by 1980 the electorate had fallen to 310, though by 2005 it had reached 451. During this period a substantial number of new houses (when compared to the existing) were built in the village.
